Aphrodite: All's Fair in Love and War
(Yes, I have an Aphrodite in my head now, the gods help us. This little vignette takes place during the Trojan War shortly after the duel between Paris and Menelaus, when Aphrodite whisks Paris away before Menelaus can kill him)
Well, it wasn't my fault. I couldn't stand there and let the boy get killed after all, especially after all the work I've done. It would be a shame to see his pretty face scratched by Menelaus' sword and see his blond hair spattered with blood. Besides, Paris was never meant for fighting. So I sent him off to his lover where he belonged, because unlike some of my siblings, I do keep my promises.
I can already hear them whining about fair play and all that. Really! As if any of them know a thing about "fair play". As if Athena wouldn't have done the same for any of her dear Achaeans. After all, I didn't hear them talking about fair play when Helen decided that she loved her Trojan prince better than her husband. Wasn't that fair? Didn't they deserve each other? But no, it's war that my dear siblings understand, not love. Just like those foolish mortals.
So maybe I pulled a few strings here and there, maybe I intervened a little, but the boy deserved it. He got what he wanted: his beautiful princess. He won her fairly. And if everyone else hadn't insisted on getting involved, none of this ridiculous war would have happened.
And none of horrors that are to come would have happened either.
