The Muses

Here's a list of the characters that frequently appear in my Thoughts and stories, followed by a short description of them. Some of them are characters I actually created, and others are based on the characters of other writers.

Famous Fictional Realities
Includes characters from and related to Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Horatio Hornblower, Cambridge Spies, and Discworld

Rene Courfeyrac, Les Miserables:My first character. He's a member of Les Amis De L' ABC, a radical political group in 1830s France, as well as a jokster and a flirt. He lives in my head and delights in annoying the heck out of me.

Henri Combeferre, Les Miserables:Second-in-command of the aformentioned political group. A calm, rational, philisophical medical student.

Leon Grantaire, Les Miserables:Tends to follow around Les Amis De L' ABC, but would laugh to say he was "one of them". A bitter cynic with a dark sense of humor, and an ironic adoration for the group's leader, Enjolras.

Marie-Noelle Veron, Les Miserables:I created her from my own brain. A ballet dancer at the Paris Opera who is in love with Jean Prouvaire, another of Les Amis. She's a lovesick Mary Sue, but I like her anyway.

Margurite LeClerk, Les Miserables: A Paris gamine, adopted by her Laigle when she was around 8 years old. She's sweet and adorable, and can be shy, though she wreks havoc when she wants to.

Madeleine Combeferre, Les Miserables: Joins her, her, and her as one of Les amies de l'ABC. An alternate timeline 'ferre that I created in a spout of bordom, she grew up in an orphanage, ran away, dressed up as a boy, ended up going to the university in Paris like the rest of 'em, and of course got herself killed on June 6.

Rebecca de Winter, The Scarlet Pimpernel: Based on the title character of Rebecca by Daphne DuMauier, and stuck in the world of the French Revolution. She's a cold, greedy, seducive spy for the French governement, and my resident "bad girl". She insists that she has her her own side of the story to tell, though...

Archie Kennedy Horatio Hornblower: The smart-aleck, fast talking, but emotionally troubled sidekick to the series' title hero. He's from an aristocratic Scottish family he doesn't have much of a liking for. Archie has inner demons like you wouldn't believe, but that doesn't stop him from being unrelentingly loyal to Horatio, even to a point of adoration. For better or for worse, unceasingly adorable.

William Bush, Horatio Hornblower: The other sidekick, and in the books, the only one. William provides the loyal, stable rock for Horatio to rely on in times of trouble, while he quietly adores his hero to no end.

Lady Barbara Wellesley, Horatio Hornblower: The (eventual) love interest. Barbara is aristocratic and ladylike and isn't afraid to show it, but at the same time isn't afraid to be smart and independent as well. And she is one of the few people (the only other probably being Archie) that isn't afraid to make fun of Horatio when he needs it.

Anthony Blunt, Cambridge Spies: One of the "Cambridge Spy Ring," a group of graduates of that illustrious university in the 1930s who spied for the KGB during World War II and the Cold War, he is a fictionalized representation of a real person. Cool, often humorless, and academic, but with a strange and difficult to pinpoint loyalty. The other spies will show up here, but he takes up the most of my headspace.

Sam Vimes, Discworld: The copper's copper from the wrong side of town who rose to become one of the most powerful people in Ankh-Morpork, the largest city on the Disc (which, for the record, is carried on the back of four elephants and flies through space in the back of a turtle). Rough, serious, often haunted by his past, he is damned good at what he does.

Moderne Characters
Based mainly on the characters above, but set in present times.

Ron Corwell: A modern version of Rene Courfeyrac. He grew up a surfer brat in Malibu, and has recently gone to New York City to start law school at NYU.

Mary Ann Vernon: Marie-Noelle's modern equivalent, though she went through the un-Mary Sue machine as well as the time warp :-). The result is a slightly darker version of Marie-Noelle; a struggling member of the American Ballet Theatre corps. She now has a diary here

Maggie Larson: A modern version of Margurite, at this time still sort of in the making. Much of her circumstances are the same as her original's, including the fact that the moderne version of Margurite's Laigle is currently trying to adopt her. At this time, Maggie's a lot less spunky and a heck of a lot more distrustful, though.

Rachel Dubose: A sort of modern varient of Rebecca de Winter who attends Atlantic University. Bitchy, flirtatious, intelligent, self-centered to a fault, a strong believer in "working the system". And unfortunatly for him, she's familar with the famous Kyle Aubray thanks to the fact that her father used to be a congressman.

Alex Kennedy: A modern varient of Archie Kennedy who posesses both his predecessor's sense of humor and his low self-esteem. A junior lieutenant in the US Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor, he tends to react quickly and think later, even when he means well. And of course, he has a hero of his own, one Horacio Echaveste. More information about him can be found here.

Kathryn Kennedy: Actually not anyone's modern varient, but Alex's sister. She is a theater major at AU, a smart-aleck, and in general a troublemaker. Passionate about too much, especially "going against the grain", but she means well, and cares about those close to her, particularly her brother.

Laura Kingsley: Lady Barbara's modern varient, a student at the fictional Graymore University. She often comes across as a snobby socialite at first glance, but there really is more to her than that, for she is struggling to find her place in the world. Intelligent, a bit of a smartass, and sometimes dangerously honest

Mythology

Aphrodite: Greek goddess of love and beauty. A bitchy, self-centered diva with powers. Be afraid.

Children of Isra'El: From the Bible, literally the sons (and daughter) of Jacob, some of which have recently decided to populate my head. They are as follows: Ruben (the eldest), Simion, Levi, Judah, Issacahr, Zebulan, Gad, Asher, Dan, Naphtali, Joseph, Benjamin, and Dinah. His wives, Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah might appear as well.

Other

Novelette: I may be an ametuer writer, but I'm a professional bookworm. Once in a while I'll post my thoughts on the different books I am reading. Some might be essays for school, and others just random comments.

Magic Words: My name for poetry, though I must warn you that it's been ages since I wrote a poem :-).

Magnetic Poetry: Poetry compiled from one of those magnetic poetry kits. Different from the one above because the word choice is limited, so the poetry is more broken and random.

Roleplay: Occasionally, I might post particularly interesting roleplay logs in this writing journal. All these snipets will be pieces I wrote with other writers.

Snapshots: I may periodically write pieces that include short vignettes of a number of characters, centered around a common theme, which will be called Snapshots.

Onto the writing
